aka White Rose of York

Alba. An ancient rose AKA White Rose of York which can be traced back to the 15th century. The summer blooms are double, fragrant and creamy white followed by orange hips. Foliage is a pale grey-green. Always a pleasing sight when in full flower. Disease resistant and needs little pruning

NB Rosa x alba 'Semi-Plena' is also known as The White Rose of York.

Alba. Introduced to Britain by the Romans this historic rose has pure white semi-double flowers followed by attractive hips in autumn. Sweetly scented. Suitable for hedging or can be used as a small climber. A simple yet beautiful rose. AKA The White Rose of York.

NB. Rosa x alba Maxima is also known as the White Rose of York.

Hybrid Musk. Long arching sprays of single, small, pink blooms with a white centre and a soft fragrance. Very dainty and delightful, continuously in bloom. Good ornamental hips in autumn. Superb rose as shrub, pillar or standard. RHS AGM. 1937.

Rugosa. An outstanding Rose that repeats well with flowers that have an overwhelming fragrance. The blooms are clear white and semi-double. Always admired in the garden. Tolerant of poor soils and light shade. Excellent large hips in autumn. Can be used as a robust hedge. 1892.

aka Buff Beauty

Hybrid Musk. A well known and well loved little climber with fully double blooms varying from buff-yellow to soft apricot. Really pretty in full flower. Recurrent with a good strong scent. Could be used as a tall bush or small climber. 1939.

aka The Sweetheart Rose

China. A perfect little button-hole rose, simply charming. Almost always in flower with small perfect pink blooms that open from long pointed buds. Fragrance is light, sweet and spicy. Relatively few thorns and healthy foliage. This climbing sport is quite vigorous and will tolerate some shade. 1894.

Alba. We don't know the origin or age of this rose but we do know that is really lovely when it flowers in summer. The blooms are set on reddish stems against grey-green foliage. They are sweetly scented. softest pink, open and cupped. Red hips follow the blooms. Tolerant and hardy.

Moss. A beautiful Rose which was discovered in Switzerland in the 1820's. The clear pink blooms are sweetly scented, fully double and cupped. Flowers in summer and should be pruned after flowering. Slightly drooping habit but quite hardy all the same.

The buds are said to look like a 'cocked hat' hence the name Chapeau De Napoleon or 'Napoleon's Hat'. Not sure what the little general would think about that, mind you he did love Josephine and she in turn had a passion for roses.......

Gallica. An unusual rose that grows quite tall with strong arching branches. It bears single, deep pink simple flowers which aren't complicated at all. An attractive pale central zone highlights the prominent yellow stamens. Flowers mainly in summer. Good autumn hips and a soft fragrance

Rugosa hybrid. Large single blooms of dark pink highlighted with golden stamens appear continuously throughout the season. The blooms are very fragrant and if left uncut will produce large scarlet hips. Dark green foliage. Shows good disease resistance. AKA Hazel le Rougetel. 1988.
